THE STORY
Built in the late 1800s, this Victorian gem sits in one of Cape Town’s most coveted streets. The house exudes charm with its original floors, solid wooden doors, and intricate balustrades, perfectly blending historic character with modern comfort. Sunlight fills the sunny conservatory, ideal for leisurely breakfasts, while the private back courtyard offers a tranquil retreat. Every detail, from the curated art to the mix of old and new, creates a welcoming, sophisticated atmosphere that makes every stay unforgettable.
Sir John Molteno was a prominent political and business figure in the Cape Colony, instrumental in the development of infrastructure and civic works. Following the naming of the reservoir, the adjoining street in the general area of the Gardens, Oranjezicht, was named Molteno Road and directly honours the legacy of Sir John Molteno.
